Welcome to bienor.co.uk

Bienor is a centaur that crosses the orbit of Uranus. It was discovered by MW Buie, SD Kern, RL Millis, and LH Wasserman on 27th August 2000. It has a diameter of approximately 200km and takes nearly 67 years to orbit the sun. Bienor's provisional designation in astronomy is 2000 CQ243.

Centaurs are minor planets that have unstable transient orbits that cross the orbits of one or more of the giant planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune) and therefore behave as half asteroid and half comet. They are named after the mythological race of centaurs.

In Greek mythology, Bienor was one of the centaurs that attended the wedding of Pirithous, the King of the Lapiths. Bienor was killed by Theseus.

Antoine-Louis Barye (1796-1875) created the sculpture called Theseus combatting the Centaur Bienor.
